Segment #2: Scarecrow’s News Rant – Today, naked body scanners – Tomorrow, strip searches – oops!

We are told that on September 11, 2001 everything changed. We were informed by our leaders that evil mean with beards living in caves in a far off land were responsible for the first foreign attack on US soil in a couple hundred years.
We were shocked out a longstanding belief that oceans separated us from those who might wish to do us harm. We were told by our government that anyone could be a terrorist.
So far the US war on terror in Iraq has cost the lives of 4486 US service men and women with 4347 of those being killed since President Bush announced “MISSION ACCOMPLISHED”. In addition to the dead, there have been an official 33,184 wounded though some put the number at more than 100,000.
And as a side bar, a total of 1,455,590 Iraqis have lost their lives. Of these, more than 800,000 were civilians. And of course untold millions have been maimed.
In Afghanistan, the US has lost 1,803 lives with 9,971 seriously wounded. Some estimates are that as many as 14,700 Afghan civilians have lost their lives during the ten years of US occupation.
Nearly two thirds of both US and Afghan deaths have taken place since Barrack Obama took office.

One would think that after ten years of non stop killing and maiming in the name of “freedom and democracy” we could declare victory, bring our troops home and get back to normal. But that aint gonna happen. You see, there is now an entrenched bureaucracy and a lot of folks with dollar store shiny badges on their polyester shirts that depend on you being scared for their living.
So be afraid, be very, very afraid … Osama might be dead but there is an even scarier bogey man out there somewhere who is jealous of your freedom and wants to do you harm !!!
Somewhere along the time line some drugged up fellow flying on an airplane tries to ignite a “bomb” in his shoes. So anyone flying has to remove their shoes for inspection before getting on a plane.
Then yet another drugged up fellow who was helped through security by a “sharp dressed man” tries to ignite a “bomb” in his underwear. So anyone flying has to submit to a virtual strip search or get a very up close and personal groping from a person who would probably have a hard getting a job as a greeter at Wall Mart.
The level of oppression just keeps being ratcheted up a notch at a time as each new “threat” reveals some new way them bad guys might “gotcha”. And there is just no way for the average law enforcement officer to be able to know who is or is not a terrorist.
So maybe its just best that we consider EVERYONE a terrorist until proven otherwise !!! YEAH !!! That’s the ticket.
So put yourself in the position of a fellow named Albert Florence who was stopped for an aledged traffic infraction. Mr. Florence thought the traffic stop was not warranted and expressed his displeasure to the traffic officer.
Mr. Florence was placed into custody, taken to the local lockup where we told to strip, bend over, squat, spread his cheeks and cough.
After working its way through the courts Mr. Florence’s case finally arrived at the Supreme Court where he argued that the punishment was far more severe than any crime he may or may not have committed warranted. The Supreme Court disagreed citing that if only them evil terrorists who blew up New York had been stopped for speeding the disaster might have been averted!
It is also most disconcerting that the Justice Kennedy repeatedly referred to United States Citizens held in custody, but not formally charged with a crime, let alone found guilty, as “detainees”.
This wording is key. You are no longer “the accused”, you are now a “detainee”. A term used to describe those in Guantanamo. Typically, used to describe an enemy combatant that you really do not have any proof to accuse but who is assumed to be so dangerous they cannot be released.
So it seems we have already moved from that innocent time when a virtual strip search involving ionizing radiation is adequate. The new mantra of those who are protecting us from evil is, “STRIP, SQUAT, BEND OVER, SPREAD YOUR CHEEKS and CAUGH!”.
