Presumption of Guilt Lays Foundation for U.S. Citizen Tax and Travel Laws

From an article on The Activist Post – http://www.activistpost.com/2012/05/presumption-of-guilt-lays-foundation.html

In what appears to be a growing movement in the United States Congress, at least two different pieces of legislation have been introduced during the course of this year that would involve the stripping of travel rights and the possession of passports for a variety of reasons.

The more draconian of the two bills, The Moving Ahead For Progress Act (MAP-21) S. 1813, actually allows for the “revocation or denial” of a passport for anyone who has delinquent or unpaid taxes. This is why Eric Blair of Activist Post has labeled it the “Keeping the Slaves on the Plantation Act.”

Section 40304 of the bill states in clear language, “that any individual has a seriously delinquent tax debt in an amount in excess of $50,000, the Secretary shall transmit such certification to the Secretary of State for action with respect to denial, revocation, or limitation of a passport.”

At first, this section appears only to target wealthier citizens yet, as is always the case, the language of the bill can easily be twisted in order to apply to almost everyone else.

This is because the amounts of “delinquent taxes” claimed to be owed by the individual is generated by the IRS and the burden of proof is subsequently placed on the citizen, not the agency making the accusation. Thus, an obviously outrageous claim of back taxes can be made against anyone and the responsibility to demonstrate that the money is owed or not, along with all of the financial and legal inconvenience that accompanies it, now falls squarely on the shoulders of the citizen. Once again, in America, you will be presumed guilty until you prove yourself innocent.

If that don’t piss you off, please check your pulse; you may have died and just don’t realize it yet!

Segment #3: Feature Presentation – Kevin Meyerson – Thorium Myths – Renewable Realities

Presenter: Kevin Meyerson
Estimated time: 40 minutes

Quite a few have asked me, “who the hell is Kevin Meyerson?”

So here goes.  A few weeks ago we had a presentation on a form of nuclear called Liquid Fluoride Thorium Reactor or LFTR for short.  That show generated a lot of email and Twitter traffic.  There were many strong opinions represented in the feedback I got.  Most of the opinions expressed appeared to be favorable but one in particular stood out as being strongly unfavorable.  That opinion was expressed by a fellow named Kevin Meyerson.

I invited Kevin to come on the show and state his case.  This seemed like the proper journalistic thing to do.  We heard a very positive presentation on Thorium, so I thought it would be great to hear the opposing point of view.  What I did not anticipate was the level of negative reaction I got from the PRO-Thorium crowd over my decision to provide Kevin with a forum to express his opinions.  It seems kevin has something of a reputation for being somewhat disruptive in some of the forums and discussion groups.

hmmm … In our pre-show email discussion he seems like a decent sort of fellow who just happens to have an opposing point of view.  He doesn’t seem like the disruptive sort.  And I rather like the idea of hearing as many sides of an argument as I can.  Then I will make up my own damn mind.

In any case, tonight we hear from Kevin Meyerson … I guess we will find out.

Discussion Outline:

Title: Thorium Myths – Renewable Realities

Introduce two blog posts I wrote:

Thorium Nuclear Energy Information Resources

http://kevinmeyerson.wordpress.com/2012/04/26/thorium-nuclear-information-resources/

100% Renewable Energy Information Resources

http://kevinmeyerson.wordpress.com/2012/05/20/100-renewable-energy-information-resources/

I can introduce the blog posts above briefly, and then state the following:

Thorium Myths:

  • It’s ‘proven technology’
  • It’s going to be commercialized ‘soon’
  • It’s cheap
  • It’s clean
  • It’s safe
  • It’s a proliferation solution
  • It’s the only way to solve the energy crisis

Renewable Realities:

  • It’s proven technology
  • It’s already commercialized
  • It’s cheap
  • It’s clean
  • It’s safe
  • It’s a proliferation solution
  • It’s the cheapest way to solve the energy crisis

I am able to speak to all of the above points to some degree… perhaps we make this the flow of the interview?

Also, regarding energy efficiency, I am building a “Passivhaus” certified house in Japan. It will be complete in about a month. It uses only one tenth of the energy of a typical building yet is extremely comfortable year round. I am able to speak about it as well.
